Professional Chef Gloria Lost 121 Pounds On 'Miracle' Kimkins Low ...

I grew up in the restaurant industry with my dad owning three small-town family diners in west Tennessee. Constantly being around food, especially big buffets, was as tempting as it gets. So, you can imagine anyone who has an occupation that puts them around food all the time very likely will have a weight problem to deal with. That's exactly what happened to Gloria. As a professional chef and caterer, the 53-year old Gloria couldn't avoid having food, food, and more food all day everyday. Even worse was the fact that she needed to consume many of the foods she was eating--some of which were decidedly unhealthy for her."It's impossible to avoid tasting foods we cook for clients and even harder to avoid finishing leftovers," Gloria admitted. "My job is even worse because I specialize in wedding cakes--you can't imagine the temptation!"EEEEK! Even the strongest among us would have trouble in that environment.

One of the things I've learned in life is when you find something you are extraordinarily passionate about and you're good at it, then you need to pursue that with every fiber of your being so that the infectiousness of what drives you will begin to influence others. That's what Bridget Hart has decided to do.This spunky professional chef, who loves to teach other how to cook as well as providing in-home catering, has started the Denver, Colorado-based Sweet Enough Personal Chef & Catering Services business to provide sizzling low-carb dishes that will tantalize your tastebuds. Bridget is a big believer in using fresh, whole foods with just the right herbs and spices to complement the meal. She is a graduate of the Cook Street School of Fine Cooking accelerated Food & Wine Career Program in Denver with more than over 13 years of combined experience in the fields of special event planning and execution, conference services, catering, and cooking.

The Yo-Yo Economics Of Women & Diets

According to a new study, British women spend up to 31 years of their adult life, or six months per year, on a diet. That's more time than they'll spend sleeping or raising children! The report, commissioned by Laughing Cow Extra Light Diet, also found that the average dieter fantasizes non-stop about food for around 921 hours or 38.3 days per year and drops around $300 on special diet foods. Not only that, nearly two thirds of all Brits (men and women) "are unhappy with their body and feel that being thinner would make them happier." The depressing data was released this week, when, according to the study, most New Year's Resolution diets fail (75%), either from lack of willpower or unwanted moodiness.

Although this research was conducted in England, I don't think it would be a stretch to assume that American women are similarly obsessed with weight loss.

Lose weight without losing your mind

Few diet books, if any, contain as much wisdom as this tiny volume. Even better, every page of "Dieting Causes Brain Damage" features an animal photograph. Who can resist a picture of a slumbering polar bear, flopped next to what must be a pool of water in a zoo, that's captioned "Becoming self-conscious about sunbathing on the beach?"

This book, like others published by Bradley Trevor Greive, is essentially a picture book. But the author, who once ballooned to 280 pounds, was inspired by his own weight-loss process, and amid the photos of cute penguins and crazily posed puppies are musings on weight loss with actual insight.

A bird with a piece of fruit in its beak adorns a page that advises, "When in doubt, use your common sense. There is no such thing as a magic weight-loss pill, and if there were such a magic pill, no one would ever sell it to you because then there would be no diet industry."

The book ends with Greive's recipe for weight-loss success: Improve your diet.
